Annie from New Jersey is driving west. When she tries to buy hair dye in Southern California, her card is declined. We gradually learn that running out of money is the smallest of Annie’s problems. She’s buying hair dye because she’s fleeing from a double homicide back home. With an empty tank and no cash, Annie stops at a desolate motel. The lonely motel keeper sees something in Annie that reminds him of the daughter he was unable to save, and he wants to help her. But Annie is nothing like his daughter was. She’s a black hole you don’t want to get too close to.
